Organs flown from Nagpur saves 2 lives in Mumbai and Pune respectively

~First Heart Transplant conducted at Global Hospitals Mumbai~

 Zanesh Dwaine, 49 years old man was rushed to Orange City Hospital in Nagpur as he suffered from intracranial bleeding. Unfortunately his brain was completely damaged due to massive bleeding and he succumbed to his intracranial bleeding and was declared brain dead. Zanesh’s family put up a brave front in those sad and trying times and decided to donate his organs,interalia which saved 2 lives in Mumbai and Pune respectively.

Heart-Transplant

Global Hospitals Mumbai received the information about the available organs from ZTCC at around 1:30 am on 24th August; after which the team at the hospital was alerted and reached Nagpur by 10:00 am to retrieve the organs. At around 2:15 pm the team left from Nagpur  in a chartered flight with the liver and the heart and reached Mumbai at 3:40 pm.  As the heart has to be transplanted within 4 hours, the heart was dropped  first at Mumbai and the same flight took the liver to Pune.

The Mumbai traffic police rose to the occasion as always and put up a green corridor which helped  the  cadaver heart reach the  Global Hospitals in just 17 minutes from the airport; especially on a day when the traffic was at its peak due to Ganeshotsav.

Dr. Zainulabedin Hamdulay, Director of Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery at Global Hospitals, Mumbai conducted the heart transplant surgery on a 34 year old patient who was suffering from heart failure  After a wait of 8 months; the patient finally got a new lease of life. He said   “It is an honour for us to save the life of a young man who was suffering from severe heart failure and transplant was the only option left; timely retrieval of the organ all the way from Nagpur gave the gift of a new life to our patient.”

Whereas, Dr. Ravi Mohanka, Chief Liver Transplant Surgeon and Head of the Department, Global Hospitals performed the liver surgery at Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital in Pune on a 66 years old lady who was suffering from liver failure.
