A memorandum of understanding (MoU) got signed on Jan 3rd with the Common Service Centre (CSC) by the Paytm Payments Bank to sell its FASTag at 3.6 Lacs CSC outlets across India.
A report suggests that FASTag transactions will be facilitated by Paytm Payments Bank on the CSC platform. Notably in order to introduce FASTags in digitally backward areas, CSC will be responsible for appointing and training Village level Entrepreneurs to get a paperless and cashless transaction felicitated on the platform.
According to the CEO of CSC, Dinesh Tyagi the FASTag service is being provided by them since about two years. He reportedly stated that the compulsion of FASTag have led them to receive about eight lac orders from VLEs. Also he acknowledged the digitization of toll tax payments as a significant step towards modernization. Also he reportedly mentioned that VLEs so far have completed more than INR 74 Cr worth FASTag recharges in India.
CSC works under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and it is reportedly the point of delivery of social welfare schemes, Healthcare, essential public utility services, education services, financial and agriculture services.
The selling of FASTag across the Country was initiated by CSCs in September 2017. That was the time when CSC had joined hands with Equitas Bank. Apart from Equitas Bank CSCs is known for its association with HDFC Bank as well as State Bank of India for selling FASTag.
Also in March 2019 CSC also collaborated with the NATIONAL Highways Authority of a India (NHAI). CSCs till now is known to have sold around 2.84 lacs FASTags in India. As per a statement made by Tyagi, the maximum number of orders for FASTag come from Punjab, Maharashtra, Kerela, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Haryana.
